What’s the GIP for?
A group of public interest (GIP) allows partners both public and private to share ways for the creation of general interest missions. It is an adapted tool to the organization of large-scale events such as Paris 2024, the 2014 World Equestrian Games, the 2013 Francophonie Games , the 2007 rugby World Cup… and thus, from 2018, the staging of the French Grand Prix – Le Castellet.
The GIP that was founded for the return of Formula 1 to France after a 10 year absence was placed under Christian Estrosi’s presidency with Gilles Dufeigneux as CEO.
Leading local players (Region Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur, association of metropolitan areas Toulon Provence Mediterranean Sea, Metropolis Aix-Marseille, Var Departmental Council, Chamber of Commerce and Regional Industry, Var’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, urban agglomeration of Sud Sainte Baume, Department of Bouches-du-Rhône) and private actors (Excelis) form the GIP.
Thanks to the GIP’s action, France has secured a 5 years long-term contract with F1, from 2018 till 2022.
