1906 Genesis

In 1906 the Grand Prix Automobile de France was organised by the Automobile Club de France. This is the first Grand Prix in history. It was not until 1950 – with the creation of the Formula 1 World Championship – that the Formula 1 Grand Prix de France was included in the calendar of the premier motor sport discipline. Juan Manuel Fangio won this first Grand Prix de France on the Reims-Gueux circuit in his Alfa Romeo. This Grand Prix remains the longest Formula 1 race in history with 601.8 km covered.
