Lewis Hamilton won his sixth Formula One World Champion title at the Formula One US Grand Prix. Valtteri Bottas won this Grand Prix followed by Lewis Hamilton. Max Verstappen finished the race third, followed by Charles Leclerc. Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hülkenberg finished sixth and ninth respectively in the US Grand Prix.

Pierre Gasly did not finish the Grand Prix after a collision with Sergio Pérez in the final laps of the race: “It was a very good race, as we were in the top 10 for most of the Grand Prix and we were keeping pace with the McLarens. Finally, I started fighting with Sergio and we touched in turn 13 which broke my right front suspension, and we had to retire the car. We were fighting, he went down the inside at turn 13, then he touched my right front tire and bent the suspension. I don’t think it was something important, but it was enough to put me out of points and end our race. It’s disappointing to end up like this after a good weekend. »

Romain Grosjean takes 15th place in this Grand Prix, a complicated weekend for the Frenchman: “It was tricky today. We knew from the beginning of the race that it would always be a little bit complicated. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the top speed we needed, so at the beginning of the race, I couldn’t pass any of the guys. Plan A was mediums, then softs, so we tried to stay on mediums for a long time. Unfortunately, they died when everyone started stopping. Everyone was passing me, I lost a lot of time in the corners. Then we went to the hards and they were actually quite good. I was satisfied with the balance and my lap times. But we were too far behind and not able to fight. »

Renault F1 Team had a good weekend, finishing in the points with a sixth place for Daniel Ricciardo and a ninth place for Nico Hülkenberg. A good race for Cyril Abiteboul: “First of all we have to admit that it was once again a great race on our side, with very open and exciting strategies. I think the drivers enjoyed themselves and the whole team was thrilled. Daniel made a very good start and was one of the few drivers who managed to make a one-stop strategy work. When Norris stopped, we decided to be aggressive and not stop to try to beat the two McLarens, which worked. On Nico’s side the pre-race strategy was also a one-stop but we managed to convert it in time and Nico didn’t let himself down when he slipped into the ranking and was able to regain places thanks to his soft at the end of the race and thanks to intelligent fuel management at the beginning of the race.”

Charles Leclerc with his Ferrari finished this Grand Prix in fourth place, a difficult race for the Monegasque: “It was a very difficult race, especially during the first stint where the front tyres were not comfortable. It was difficult to find the right of way and we have to look at exactly how it happened. The other two stints were a little bit better, but not good enough. Our competitors were too fast, so it was a pretty lonely race for me today. It’s a shame for the team that we didn’t finish the race with both cars. Congratulations to Lewis for the title. He is a great champion and he deserves it. »

Lewis Hamilton finished second in the 2019 US Formula 1 Grand Prix and won his sixth World Championship title: “It’s hard to explain how I feel right now, to be honest. It was the most difficult year I can remember; it was a very difficult year, with ups and downs, so right now I’m so full of emotions. I feel really humble and really, really, really, really grateful to all those who work in the factories, to the whole Daimler family and to all the employees of Petronas – all those who have worked so hard to enable us to do what we do and to achieve it. It is such a privilege and honour to work for this team, to be able to go out in the field and have the platform to present performances like today. And Niki, I miss him so much. Today, he would have taken his cap off. I couldn’t have done it without Niki, he’s here with us in spirit. I saw my parents after the race and when I saw my father’s smile, it meant a lot. My family has supported me since day one, they have worked so hard for me to be here today. I’m so glad they could all come here together. Yesterday was a tough day and today I just wanted to recover and score a 1-2 for the team. Valtteri did a fantastic job, so congratulations to him.”
