Lewis Hamilton wins the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, giving Mercedes its 100th Formula 1 victory. Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas took second and third. Charles Leclerc finished in P4 followed by Alexander Albon and Max Verstappen with their Red Bull. Pierre Gasly took followed by Nico Hulkenberg.
Once again, Pierre Gasly scored points with his Toro Rosso. A difficult race for the Frenchman: “It wasn’t easy at all inside the cockpit, but today I gave everything I had and I’m happy to be scoring two points. Overall, the car was competitive throughout the weekend, which is positive. In the end, we managed to make it work, which was important for our fight in the Championship.
Romain Grosjean took 17th place in the Mexican Grand Prix, a disappointing result: “It was a difficult afternoon. Nothing was working like expected and I just hope that the next race will be better. We have to keep looking to find out what’s going on with the car. »
Renault F1 Team finished the weekend in the points with Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg respectively taking P8 and P10. It was an important weekend for Cyril Abiteboul after getting disqualified from the Japanese Grand Prix: “Every weekend, the reasons change, but the scenario remains the same: poor qualifications caught up in the race thanks to aggressive and well executed strategies. Today was once again the clear example of all that. We tried to take advantage of the freedom to choose our tyres at the start. It could have been better with a clean duel with Perez on one side, and with Kvyat who was far from being clean against Nico while helping Gasly. It’s the race, and I prefer that we focus on ourselves. The drivers did a remarkable job to make the tires last, despite the circumstances before qualifying. The team in the garage also did a phenomenal job. They had to deal with the problems encountered on Saturday morning. We must now get rid of everything that is hurting our potential. We are still offering easy opportunities to our fiercest opponents on and off the track. »
Charles Leclerc with his Ferrari finished this Grand Prix in fourth place after starting first, a disappointing result for the Monegasque: “Starting a race from pole and not finishing first is always disappointing. The start of the race went well and I managed to stay in the lead during the first stint. After my first stop, the race became very tricky: my second stint was difficult and every time I approached a car in front of me, I had trouble and couldn’t overtake. Overall, it’s a shame, but if there’s one thing I can learn today, it’s to try to help the team more with my feedback from inside the car so that we can make the best choice together.”
Lewis Hamilton wins the 2019 Mexican Formula 1 Grand Prix and scores valuable points with the objective of winning the World Championship: “Today was a surprise, we really struggled here for a while and we arrived this weekend expecting it to be very difficult. We really thought we’d be on the backfoot, but we kept a cool head, kept up the hard work and finally everything went well. I had a few crazy first turns, I was pushed on the grass at the start and Max hit me. It wasn’t easy to recover afterwards – I was missing a big part of my floor, so the rear end was moving a lot and I had to really change the dynamics of my driving style. I don’t know how I managed to keep going, but I did. The guys also did a fantastic job with the strategy – we stopped early enough, and honestly I thought maybe it was too early, but everything went well at the end. I really wanted to do something for the fans today; they were all there during the drivers’ parade to support me, so I really wanted to give them a good performance and I’m so grateful for winning. »
